Growing up, my Mum had this charming habit of using tea towels for just about everything. She'd wrap bridal shower gifts in a fresh tea towel, set them out as hot pads on the table, and even lay them on the coffee table for protection. Those humble tea towels had a multitude of uses! Isn't it funny how many of us, who might've been a tad embarrassed by our mothers back then, have now found ourselves following in their footsteps? I've taken up the tradition; I use tea towels to wrap presents, dry veggies, and yes, I even use them for decoration!
A few years ago, when I was volunteering at a thrift store, we received a generous donation of nearly 50 different linen tea towels. It was quite a sight to behold! Someone had taken the time to collect one tea towel from each place they'd visited. I found towels from Edinburgh, Athens, London, and more, each with its own unique story. In the end, I ended up buying ten of them, and I continue to use them every day. When I travel for work, I make it a point to purchase a tea towel from the city I'm in and bring it home as a unique souvenir. These days, I often give them as gifts instead of hoarding them, but it's a lovely way to bring a piece of the world back with you.
